Energy Auditing
Energy audit is an effective tool for comprehensive energy management programs.
Effective management of energy-consuming systems can lead to significant cost and
savings as well as increased comfort, lower maintenance costs, and extended equipment
life. A successful energy management program begins with a detailed energy audit.
Energy audit is aimed at improving energy efficiency. The main objective is to determine
ways and to reduce the Specific Energy Consumption (SEC). Therefore, the extent
and type of Audit should result in gains commensurate with the efforts. There are
two types of Energy Audits.
Level 1 - Preliminary Audit: Preliminary
or walk-through audit is a qualitative appreciation of energy conservation opportunities
on the basis of available data. It aims at taking steps, which necessary for implementation
of Energy conservation program in an establishment
It involves activities related to collection, classification, presentation and analysis
of available data and arriving at the most appropriate steps to be taken in conservation
of Energy It also helps areas that need detailed instrumented audit
Level 2 - Detailed Energy Audit: Detailed
Energy Audit is a quantitative assessment of the extent of rational use of Energy
and aims at deriving recommendations by not only considering available data but
also undertaking instrumented measurements & testing of major energy consuming
sub-systems which are sensitive to energy cost of the product
The objective of the detailed Energy Audit is to the operations of energy
intensive equipment/systems for identification of potential areas wherein energy
savings are practically feasible
